New avian influenza first appeared in Quang Ninh, Vietnam

According to Quang Ninh Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary, all of 3 dead samples got positive results for the Avian Influenza virus, A/H5N8 strain.

Previously, on June 29th, Mr. Nguyen Huy Long's chicken farm (Bai Cat village, Vu Oai commune, Ha Long city) had scatteredly dead chickens. On June 30th, 200 chickens died in this farm. Eventually, Ha Long City Agricultural Technical Service Center took samples and sent them for testing. The results were positive for avian influenza virus A/H5N8.

This is the first time that the strain A/H5N8 appeared in Vietnam. According to Mr. Tran Xuan Dong, Branch Manager of Quang Ninh Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Branch, its danger is not only in killing poultry but also spreading to humans without leaving any practical symptoms.

The disease will develop if the infected person has already had an underlying disease. If the patient is healthy and in good resistance, the pathogen will hardly develop, but it will keep existing inside human body, develop and keep mutated, potentially creating new dangerous strains for humans, including strains that can be transmitted from person to person.

In the world, there have been recorded clusters of influenza A/H5N8 in some countries. In 2020, this strain of influenza had been recorded in many Russian chicken farms and also recorded 7 Russians positive for Avian influenza A/H5N8 virus infected by infected poultry.

At the moment, functional units are urgently carrying out measures in terms of zoning and putting an end to the epidemic in Bai Cat village, Vu Oai commune, Ha Long city, and at the same time drastically preventing the risk of spreading the disease.
